This guide will move you through the different ways to play the game. It provides a basic understanding of Empire's rules and objectives. If you are new to role-playing, or simply are stuck, we hope this guide will help. Happy reading!
------------------------------------------------------
Q: I just joined. What do I do now? A: For anything, the first step is to read any rules provided. They will give you an understanding of the game, and there is a secret password you will need to find to join as a character! You will find Empire's rules under the 'Guidelines' board.
Q: I found the password, now what do I do with it? A: The password will be required to gain access into the 'Introduction' board. That is where you will fill out a joining form for the character you wish to play. Remember that you will need to wait to be accepted by a staff member before continuing!
Q: I filled out the form! Why haven't I been accepted yet? A: Please be patient. The staff try their hardest to get to you as quickly as they can. Remember, the staff have many others to accept and they have their real lives to keep them busy. If there is a serious problem, feel free to send a PM to one of them.
Q: What are strength points, and what are they for? A: Strength points accumulate as you post. You earn two strength points for each post you make. These points show how strong your character is. The more posts you make, the stronger it gets! Strength points play a part in fighting, as well as any other situation when roleplaying your character.
Q: What are wisdom points, what are they for, and how do I get them? A: Unlike strength points, you do not automatically recieve wisdom points. Wisdom points are awarded by staffmembers for doing a number of things in the out of character boards. The points may be used to show the wisdom and intelligence of your character, as well as showing everyone else that you did something good! Some ways to recieve wisdom points: having exceptional roleplaying skills, helping another member with something, being friendly to everyone overall, being extremely active, winning a contest, referring a friend to the site, and helping the forum any way you can! There are many other ways to recieve wisdom points, these are just a few of them! If at any point you would like to divide your wisdom points throughout your seperate accounts, PM Númenor.

Q: Where do I go first? A: Where your character goes first is mostly up to you. You have a few options. Are there any lands open? If so, you can try claiming it. If there are no lands open, you can challenge another stallion for his land and herd. To do so, create a challenge thread either in their land or in the stallion fighting grounds (Barron Ridge). If you do not wish to be a lead stallion, and there is a herd without a beta stallion, you can create a thread asking the lead for the position. If there are no beta positions open, you can ask a lead stallion to simply be a stallion in his herd. If you do not want to be a herd member, fell free to roam in the boards at 'The Gateway.'
Q: When can I claim mares, and what are the claiming rules? A: Only stallions that lead a herd may claim mares. If you are waiting to be accepted as leader, you still may not claim- wait until you are accepted. You may only claim two mares at a time in the claiming grounds, but you may also claim elsewhere if the situation permits.
Q: Another stallion challenged me! What do I do? A: Herdleading and beta stallions may be challenged. You must accept the challenge. Keep in mind that if you do not respond within a week, the challenging stallion will automatically win your land! (This does not apply if you are away.) Both stallions will fight at the stallion fighting grounds (Barron Ridge), and the admins will decide the winner. The winner is decided by role-playing and herd-leading skills. Strength and wisdom points do not have a large role in deciding the winner, but they do have a small percentage of it.
Q: Is there a limit to the number of mares a stallion can breed to in mating season? A: No, there is not.
Q: Is a stallion allowed into the foaling grounds? A: No.

Q: Where do I go first? A: You have many options, you can go to the claiming grounds (Seaside Forest), or any other terrain that permits your character to enter.
Q: Are mares allowed to lead a herd and claim other mares? A: No, mares cannot claim any herdlands or mares. Everything is up to the lead stallion. If the lead stallion dies or is never seen again the mares must leave and try to find another herd.
Q: Do mares have free wills? A: That's all up to the lead stallion. Free wills are when the mares of the herd are allowed to do anything they want. (Like go off into other terrains without permission, or even leave their herd to find another one!)
Q:What do I do if another mare challenges me, or if I want to challenge another mare? A: Well you have some options if a mare challenges you. You can choose whether or not to go and fight. (If you choose not to fight, you automatically lose.) Fighting works like this, the two "fighters" lay down some rules, like how many posts they can have, etc. Then they maximize those posts, after that the admins decide who wins. Mares can only fight for other mare's positions or foals! You do not need to be in the same herd as the mare you are challenging. You may give the mare a warning but all fighting must be held at Desert Dunes!
Q: What do I do if a stallion challenges my lead? A: You sit and wait. You may not post at all! A mare has no say, whoever wins she must go with.
Q: When do mares get pregnant and foal? A: Mares can get pregnant in summer and winter. They foal in spring and autumn. Your mare must foal in the next foaling season or else the foal will die! If you are away for that season you will be excused.
Q: Is there a limit to how many foals I can adopt?: A: No, but we suggest that you have a maximum of two foals, one being your own. Ask your lead stallion for a limit.
